DELIA ORSINI ORGANIC FARM
From the birth of the farm to the present day
THE EARLY DAYS OF OUR FARM
The origins of Delia Orsini organic farm date back to 1925, when, after many hard years lived as an immigrant in the United States, grandpa Gaetano, thanks to granny Filomena’s brilliant idea, decided to buy a small piece of land, few kilometres away from the village of Loreto Aprutino.
The property included sunny and prolific plots of land, entirely cultivated with olive groves, covering the gentle slopes of a wide hill; on its top, a small dwelling hosting not only the old couple, but also their sons, Giovanni and Luigi, with their respective families.
Beyond family reunion reasons, this choice was made with the purpose of developing an agricultural production that could support the whole family’s expenses. However, to make this dream come true, there were many challenges to overcome, first of all the lack of good connections with the nearest village, Loreto Aprutino.
THE BIRTH OF OUR FARM
Years passed by and dad Giovanni, driven by his love for nature and for the outdoors, his respect for old traditions and his desire to achieve new challenging goals, founded a farm.
Soon, their Extra Virgin olive oil from Abruzzo, produced only and exclusively with their own harvests, started to be commercialized among relatives and friends, to then be purchased by a larger and larger number of customers.
The businesskept its family-run dimension along generations, finally welcoming Sergio and his wife, Delia Orsini. In light of his wife’s great engagement and passion for the development of our agricultural production, mainly high quality olive oil, in 1993 we decided to rename the company with her name: Delia Orsini Farm was founded!
THE CONVERSION INTO AN ORGANIC FARM
The choice of turning our agricultural production into an organic one was officially taken in May 2010, when the farm was already solidly managed by my wife. Actually, this decision did not produce any relevant changes in our production system because, being our family the first consumer of the products of our land, we have always had and we will always have a strong interest for a 100% healthy and natural Extra Virgin olive oil.
Furthermore, this way we preserve the local ecosystem and we make sure we will be able to harvest and enjoy the fruits of our land for many other years in the future.
Our efforts helped us obtaining the organic certification faster: normally the procedure requires three years, but, having provided broad documentary evidence of the purchase and exclusive employment of natural fertilizers and pesticides authorized in organic farming, we could receive it after only two years, in May 2012.
Having obtained the official organic recognition by a major accredited entity, “Suolo & Salute”, both for the plantation of olive groves and for the production of Extra Virgin olive oil, Delia Orsini Farm can now be considered for all intents and purposes an organic farm.
